Interested in fighting using rattan and heavy armor, or maybe more lightly armored rapier combat? The SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) features both forms of historically inspired martial arts. Both one on one tournaments and group battle scenarios are a staple of most SCA events. These fights are not choreographed, and the outcomes are dependent on the skill of the combatants. Safety officers, known within the society as marshals, are present at all official practices and events featuring combat to ensure that all equipment used meets safety regulations and fighters conduct themselves in a way that does not create undue risk for anyone involved.
The Shire of Depedale has the good luck of being located fairly close to many weekend events held throughout the year where we are always proud to get to cheer on our local fighters. We offer weekly (schedule subject to change based on weather and the availability of marshals) practices and training sessions in Douglas County, GA. New and interested, but don’t have any gear? Check in ahead of time with the marshal of the practice you want to attend and they may be able to provide loaner gear for you to use.

Youth Combat
Are you (or your child) interested in the combat of the middle ages, but under 18? We have a marshal who specializes in modified heavy combat for children aged 6 years and up. Youth practices are currently held alongside adult heavy combat practices on Sundays beginning at 2:00 PM at Gold Dust Park in Villa Rica (646 Industrial Blvd, Villa Rica, GA 30180). We are located by the tennis courts.
